UNITED NATIONS (PRIVILEGES AND IMMUNITIES) ACT, 1947

S.1 Short title

This Act may be called the United Nations (Privileges and Immunities) Act, 1947.


S.2 Conferment on United Nations and its representatives and officers and certain privileges and immunities

(1) Notwithstanding anything to the country contained in any other law, the provisions set out in the Schedule to this Act of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the 13th day of February, 1946, shall have the force of Law in India.


S.3 Power to confer certain privileges and immunities on other international organisations and their representatives and officer

       Where in pursuance of any international agreement, convention or other instrument it is necessary to accord to any international organisation and its representatives and officers privilege and immunities in India similar to those contained in the provisions set out in the schedule, the Central Government may, by notification
       {Provision set out in the Schedule has been extended with certain modifications to the following organisations by various notifications :--}
       (1) International Civil Aviation Organisation.
       (2) World Health Organisation.
       (3) International Labour Organisation.
       (4) Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
       (5) United Nations Educ

S.4 power to make rules

       Renumbered by Act 4 of 1986, s.2 and Sch.(w.e.f 15-5-1986).}[1] The Central Government may{ Ins.by s.2, ibid.(w.e.f.15-5-1986).} [by notification in the Official Gazette] make rules for carrying out the purposes of this Act.
       {Ins.by s.2, ibid.(w.e.f.15-5-1986).}[(2) Every rule made under this Act shall be laid, as soon as may be after it is made, before each House of Parliament, while it is in session, for a total period of thirty days which may be comprised in one session or in two or more successive sessions the aforesaid, both Houses agree in making any modification in the rule of both agree that the rule should not me made, the rule shall there after have effect only in such modified form or be of no effect, as the case may be; so, however, that any such modification on annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity of anything previously done under that rule.]

       ARTICLE I
       JURIDICAL PERSONALITY
       SECTION 1. The United Nations shall possess juridical personality.
       It shall have the capacity :
       (a) to contract;
       (b) to acquire and dispose of immovable and movable property;
       (c) to institute legal proceedings.

       PROPERTY FUNDS AND ASSETS
       SECTION 2. The United Nations, its property and assets wherever located and by whomsoever held, shall enjoy immunity from every form of legal process except in so far as in any particula
