ASSAM ACT III OF 1954

An Act to amend the Assam Agricultural Income-Tax Act, 1939. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Assam Agricultural Income-Tax Act, 1939 (Assam Act IX of 1939), hereinafter called the principal Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing ; It is hereby enacted as follows :—

S.1 Short title, extent and commencement.

(1) This Act may be called the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1954.

(2) It shall have the like extent as the Assam Local Self-Government Act, 1953 (Assam Act XXV of 1953).

(3) It shall come into force at once.

S.2 Postponement of Elections.

Notwithstanding anything contained in Section 18 of the Assam Local Self-Government Act, 1953 (Assam Act XXV of 1953) or in the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1953 (Assam Act IV of 1953), the Local Board Elections due to be held before the 1st April, 1954 may be postponed by order of the State Government for such period as they may deem necessary :

Provided that such period shall not extend to a date later than the 31st March, 1955.
