MEGHALAYA AMUSEMENTS AND BETTING TAX (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2006

An Act further to amend the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax Act (Assam Act VI of 1939 as adapted by Meghalaya). Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Meghalaya in the Fifty-Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:

S.1 Short title and commencement

• (1) This Bill may be called the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2006.
• (2) It shall come into force at once.

S.2 Insertion of new Section 3D

After Section 3C of the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax Act (Assam Act VI of 1939 as adapted by Meghalaya), the following new Section 3D, shall be inserted, namely:-

"3D. Power of State Government to amend and revise the rates of Tax.

Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, the State Government may, subject to previous publication of its intention to do so, by notification in the Official Gazette add to, omit or otherwise modify and revise the rate of tax in respect of the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax Act and there upon it shall stand modified or revised, as the case may be, accordingly".
