(1) This Act may be called the Young Persons Harmful Publications Act, 1956.

(2) It extends2 to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

(3) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

2. The Act extended to the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli by Regn. 6 of 1963 (w.e.f. 1-8-1968) as also to the State of Sikkim (w.e.f. 1-3-1984 vide S.0.136 (E) of 1984.
