ED Summons Ex-Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac Over KIIFB Masala Bonds Case

Supreme Today News Desk

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned senior Kerala CPI(M) leader Thomas Isaac for questioning in a FEMA case linked to probe into the alleged violations in the financial dealings of KIIFB during his tenure as finance minister. The agency had previously withdrawn the summons to Isaac, but has now issued a fresh one, asking him to appear before it on January 16. The ED is investigating allegations that Isaac, while serving as the finance minister, had violated the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) by raising funds through masala bonds without obtaining the necessary approvals. Isaac has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the funds were raised in accordance with the law. The CPI(M) has also come to Isaac's defense, accusing the ED of conducting a politically motivated investigation. The ED's summons to Isaac is a significant development in the KIIFB case, which has been mired in controversy for several months. The ED is expected to question Isaac about the specific transactions that are alleged to have violated FEMA.
