Supreme Today News Desk

**Varanasi Court to Decide on Jan 24 Whether to Make Public ASI Report on Gyanvapi Mosque Complex.** * A Varanasi court on Saturday set January 24 to decide whether to make public the sealed Archeological Survey of India (ASI) report on the Gyanvapi mosque complex survey and provide copies to the parties involved. * The Hindu and Muslim sides' counsel and the ASI were present in the court. * The ASI had conducted a scientific survey of the Gyanvapi premises to determine if the mosque was built over a pre-existing Hindu temple structure. * The ASI submitted its report to the court in a sealed cover on December 18. * The Allahabad High Court had dismissed pleas from the Muslim side challenging the maintainability of a suit seeking restoration of a temple where the Gyanvapi mosque now stands. * The survey was ordered by the court after petitioners claimed the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing temple. * The matter is also expected to be taken up by the district judge court on January 24.
