Judge Attacked in Viral Courtroom Video Returns for Sentencing

Supreme Today News Desk

A Nevada judge who was attacked by a man during a court hearing that went viral last week was finally able to proceed with sentencing. Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Hothus sentenced 30-year-old Deobra Redden, who was facing prison time for a felony battery charge stemming from a baseball bat attack last year, to up to four years behind bars for attempted battery. The attack on the judge was captured on courtroom video and went viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern over the safety of judges and court personnel. Redden, who has a history of violent offenses, was shackled and wearing a Hannibal Lecter-style mask and a hood to prevent him from biting or spitting during the sentencing hearing. Additional charges related to the assault, including coercion, extortion, intimidating a public officer with threat of force, and seven counts of battery on a protected person, are pending against Redden.
