Karur Stampede: TVK Moves Madras HC Seeking Independent Probe, Citing 'Conspiracy' Amidst Criminal Charges

CHENNAI – In the tragic aftermath of a deadly stampede that claimed 40 lives at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, the legal battle over accountability has commenced. Actor-politician Vijay’s fledgling party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has urgently approached the Madras High Court, seeking a suo motu, independent investigation into the disaster, alleging a "conspiracy" behind the incident. Key factors cited include the significant delay in Vijay’s arrival (he was expected at noon but arrived at 7:40 pm), which caused the crowd to swell beyond the permitted 10,000 to over 27,000, and a lack of basic amenities like food and water for the waiting multitude. This official account directly contradicts TVK's "conspiracy" theory and lays the groundwork for a prosecution focused on organizational culpability.
