Kerala Law Academy Announces 7th National Trial Advocacy Competition with Cash Prizes

Thiruvananthapuram, India — The Kerala Law Academy Law College has officially announced the 7th National Trial Advocacy Competition, set to take place in a hybrid format from September to October 2026. The competition, focused on criminal law, aims to sharpen advocacy skills and deepen understanding of trial court procedures among law students across India.

A Platform for Practical Learning

Designed to simulate real criminal trial proceedings, the competition tests participants on procedural mastery, witness examination, evidentiary handling, and persuasive oral arguments. According to the detailed rules released by the organizers, the event will include a procedural test, preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and an offline final round.

"To provide practical insights into the working of the Criminal Justice System " and "to enhance understanding of criminal law procedures" are among the stated objectives of the competition.

Competition Structure and Key Dates

The competition will unfold in four stages:

  • Procedural Test (Online) : 10 September 2026 — A 25-minute test of 30 objective questions on the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. Only the top 15 teams advance.
  • Preliminary and Semi-Final Rounds (Online) : 18–20 September 2026 — Teams argue both as prosecution and defense in a knockout format.
  • Final Round (Offline) : 10 October 2026 — Held at the V. R. Krishna Iyer Hall, KLA Campus, Thiruvananthapuram.

Each team must consist of two speakers and one researcher. The language of the competition is English, and a formal dress code is mandatory.

Registration and Fees

Provisional registration requires a non-refundable fee of ₹1,000. Teams selected after the procedural test must pay an additional ₹2,600. The last date for registration is 1 September 2026.

Cash Prizes and Recognition

The winning team will receive a merit certificate and a cash prize of ₹15,000. The runners-up will be awarded ₹10,000. All participants will receive e-certificates of participation.
