PETALING JAYA, Malaysia - In a surprising turn of events, the lawyer representing the parents of murdered autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin has withdrawn from the case. Mahmud Jumaat of Emir Mahmud & Co confirmed his withdrawal on Tuesday, citing unavoidable reasons.

"I can confirm that I am no longer representing Zayn Rayyan 's parents. This decision was based on professional considerations that I cannot publicly disclose," Mahmud told Sinar Harian. He declined to provide further details but expressed hope for a smooth legal process based on existing laws, urging all parties to respect the proceedings and avoid speculation.

The withdrawal comes after Zayn Rayyan 's parents were remanded for seven days starting June 1st to assist the police investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The six-year-old boy was reported missing on December 5th, 2022, and his dead body was later found near a stream about 200 meters from his home in Damansara Damai. A post-mortem revealed injuries to his neck and body, leading to the conclusion that he had been killed.

During the investigation, police conducted a mass DNA screening, collecting 228 samples, and brought in witnesses, including those who claimed to have last seen the boy alive, to the scene to assist the investigators. The former caregiver of Zayn Rayyan has also been questioned.

The tragic case has garnered significant public attention, with the autism community and advocates calling for justice and better support for families of children with special needs.
