Nevada Judge Attacked During Sentencing, Defendant Faces New Charges

Supreme Today News Desk

A Nevada judge was attacked by a defendant in a felony battery case during a sentencing hearing. The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday at the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas. Judge Mary Kay Holthus was presiding over the sentencing of Deobra Delone Redden, 30, when he suddenly lunged over the defense table and the judge's bench, landing on top of her. Courtroom video captured the violent scene, showing the judge and Redden falling to the floor as court officials and bailiffs rushed to intervene. The judge suffered minor injuries to the head, while a courtroom marshal sustained a bleeding gash on his forehead and a dislocated shoulder. Redden was wrestled to the floor and arrested by court and jail officers. He faces multiple new felony charges, including battery on a protected person, for the attack on the judge and court officers. The incident has prompted a review of court protocols to enhance the safety of judges and court personnel.
