Prajwal Revanna Remanded to 14-Day Judicial Custody by Bengaluru Court - 2024-06-11

A Bengaluru court on Monday extended former JD(S) MP PrajwalRevanna 's judicial custody by 14 days. Revanna is facing multiple charges related to sexual abuse and rape against multiple women.

Revanna , who is the former JD(S) MP from the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, was accused of sexually assaulting three women. The cases came to light after several explicit videos of sexual assault allegedly involving Revanna were circulated in Hassan , ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on April 26.

Revanna was arrested minutes after he landed at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on May 31, upon his return from Munich, Germany. He had fled the country on April 27, a day after the polls in his constituency.

The 33-year-old, who is the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, was initially remanded to SIT custody till June 6, which was later extended to June 10. During this time, the SIT conducted a detailed investigation, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The court, taking into consideration the gravity of the allegations and the evidence presented by the SIT, decided to remand Revanna to judicial custody for 14 days, till June 24. The SIT did not seek further custody of Revanna , but intends to seek his custody in other pending cases against him.

Revanna has been booked in three separate cases of sexual assault, including allegations of rape. He has allegedly refused all the allegations and claimed he was not seen in the videos. The police are now trying to analyze the crime scene through spot investigations and forensic evidence to substantiate the charges.

The scandal over Revanna broke soon after the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka on April 26. He had failed in his bid to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recent polls.
