A court in Pune has directed the city police to conduct an inquiry in connection with the criminal defamation complaint filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by Satyaki Savarkar, the grand nephew of freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue V.D. Savarkar. Satyaki has alleged that Rahul Gandhi made defamatory remarks against Savarkar during a public rally in Maharashtra in 2019. The court has also imposed a cost of Rs. 10,000 on Rahul Gandhi for delay in filing his written statement in the case.
