Bharatpur, Rajasthan – The Rajasthan State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission's Circuit Bench in Bharatpur has admitted an appeal filed by a widow, Smt. Prem Devi Bairwa, against Universal Sompo General Insurance Co. Ltd. The case, registered as Appeal No. 93/2024, challenges a prior decision made by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Sawai Madhopur.
The bench, comprising Hon'ble Mukesh (Presiding Judicial Member) and Hon'ble Dinesh Kumar (Member), has scheduled the matter for further proceedings after hearing initial arguments.
The appellant, Smt. Prem Devi Bairwa, a resident of Manpur village in Sawai Madhopur district, filed the appeal challenging the order of the district forum concerning her dispute with Universal Sompo General Insurance Co. Ltd. The Manager of The Sawaimadhopur Central Co-operative Bank Ltd. is also named as a respondent in the case.
While the specifics of the original complaint at the district level are not detailed in the initial order, such appeals typically arise from grievances related to the rejection of insurance claims, inadequate claim settlements, or deficiencies in service provided by the insurance company.
During the hearing on July 7, 2025, advocate Ms. Megha Yogi represented the appellant, Smt. Prem Devi Bairwa. The primary respondent, Universal Sompo General Insurance Co. Ltd., was represented by advocate Mr. Satyaprakash Katara. Notably, no legal representative was present for the second respondent, The Sawaimadhopur Central Co-operative Bank Ltd.
After hearing the preliminary arguments, the Commission admitted the appeal for a full hearing.
The admission of the appeal signifies that the State Commission found sufficient grounds to re-examine the merits of the case and the validity of the decision rendered by the District Commission. The matter will now proceed to a detailed hearing where both parties will present their full arguments and evidence. The final judgment, as per the order, is scheduled to be pronounced on July 31, 2025. This case highlights the crucial role of the appellate mechanism within the consumer protection framework, providing consumers with an opportunity to seek redressal against unfavorable decisions at the district level.
