RGNUL RFMLR to Host 6th Demystifying M&A Series on Cross-Border M&A and Foreign Investment

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), through its flagship journal RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review (RFMLR), has announced the sixth edition of the "Demystifying M&A Series" with a sharp focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and foreign investment. Scheduled for 3 September 2026 at 3:00 PM in an online format, the session aims to bridge the gap between theoretical frameworks and the fast-changing realities of international dealmaking.

Why This Course Matters Now

The M&A landscape in India has witnessed pivotal shifts. The introduction of Press Note 3 in 2020, initially aimed at curbing opportunistic takeovers amid the pandemic, led to years of ambiguity—only recalibrated in 2026. Meanwhile, cross-border deal structuring, approval routes, and compliance norms are evolving alongside geopolitics and India's ease-of-business agenda. The sixth edition directly addresses these intertwined yet rarely discussed threads: the FDI framework, sector caps, automatic versus government routes, and the practical impact of Press Note 3's amendments.

A Practitioner's Lens

Leading the session will be Mr. Pratika Shankar , Partner at Talwar Thakore & Associates and an RGNUL alumnus (batch of 2013). With over a decade of experience in corporate M&A, private equity, and structured financing, Mr. Shankar brings a hands-on perspective to complex transactions—from deal strategy and due diligence to documentation and regulatory compliance. Previous editions of the series have covered due diligence, transaction structures, cross-border challenges, and evolving governance norms, all of which culminate in this advanced certificate course.

What Participants Can Expect

The course will demystify:

  • India's FDI routes, sector caps, and approval pathways.
  • The real impact of Press Note 3 and its 2026 amendments.
  • How cross-border deals are structured and cleared in the current regulatory environment.
  • Red flags, deal-breakers, and timeline pressures.
  • Future trends for founders, PE/VC investors, and legal teams.

A post-course objective assessment will be held, with the top three performers receiving certificates of appreciation and potential internship opportunities. All other participants will receive a certificate of participation.
