In a significant move, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has recommended the appointment of two high court judges, Justice N KotiswarSingh and Justice RMahadevan , as judges of the Supreme Court.

RMahadevan
, the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, to the Supreme Court. Justice
The Collegium noted that "the appointment of Mr Justice RMahadevan will bring diversity to the Bench" and that it has "taken due note of the fact that Mr Justice RMahadevan ranks third in the order of presently serving judges of the Madras High Court."
The recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium come at a time when the Apex Court is operating with a reduced bench, with 32 judges out of a sanctioned strength of 34, including the Chief Justice.
