Supreme Court Demands Details on Safety Measures to Prevent Train Accidents

Supreme Today News Desk

The Supreme Court has sought detailed information from the Government of India regarding protective measures implemented or proposed to prevent train accidents across the country. This inquiry stems from a plea addressing safety concerns in the railway system, particularly in light of a devastating train collision in Balasore, Odisha, which resulted in the tragic loss of 288 lives. A Bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and K.V. Viswanathan directed the submission of a comprehensive report, covering the 'Kavach' automatic train protection system and other initiatives aimed at enhancing safety. The petitioner, Vishal Tiwari, emphasized the urgent need to analyze financial implications and prioritize the value of human life in the implementation of these measures. The Court stressed the importance of ensuring public safety and urged the government to provide a thorough update on the steps taken to address these critical issues.
