In a dramatic turn of events, former President Donald Trump took the stand in his New York civil fraud trial on Thursday, claiming he was the victim of a fraud perpetrated against him. The trial, which began in October, accuses Trump of inflating his net worth by over a billion dollars to obtain loans and benefits. Trump, who faces potential damages of $370 million and a permanent ban from the New York real estate industry, vehemently denied the allegations and launched a scathing attack on the judge and the attorney general. Despite the judge's warning to focus on the facts, Trump ignored the advice and delivered a rambling speech, asserting his innocence and demanding compensation for his suffering. The state attorney general, Letitia James, countered that the case is about facts and the law, and that Trump violated the law. The trial concluded with closing arguments from both sides, and Judge Arthur Engoron is expected to issue a decision by January 31st.
