Varanasi Court to Decide on Disclosing ASI Survey Report on Gyanvapi Mosque

Supreme Today News Desk

A court in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is set to make a crucial decision on Friday regarding the release of the sealed Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) report on the Gyanvapi mosque case. The report, which was submitted in a sealed cover on December 18, 2023, contains the findings of the ASI's survey of the Gyanvapi complex, located adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. The survey was ordered by the court in July 2023 following a petition claiming that the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing Hindu temple. The ASI had initially sought a delay in making the report public, requesting the court to wait for at least four more weeks, as per the lawyer representing the Hindu side. However, the court reserved its order on Thursday and is now expected to announce its verdict on Friday.
